Community Based Poverty Reduction Projects (CPRP)

    Special Projects

The World Bank Learning and Innovation Loan (LIL) is funding the Community Based Poverty Reduction Projects (CPRP). It has three main components namely, Nutrition and Food Security, Mainstreaming Street Children, Poverty Measurement and Monitoring. The Project is being piloted in ten districts in the country. The objective of the Nutrition and Food Security component is to strengthen the capacity of communities to achieve on a sustainable basis, adequate nutrition and food security, especially for children under five, pregnant and lactating mothers.

The Street Children Component has to date approved the implementation of sub-project proposals in the provision of integrated services to street children. 38 Grant agreements actually targeting 1500 out of 1740 street children have been signed with 38 Service Providers to enable them implement their proposals in the provision of integrated services which would facilitate mainstreaming the street children into their communities and households. It is expected that a total of 2500 children would be reached with integrated services by the close of the project. The Poverty Measurement and Monitoring component supports the building of capacity at the district level to collect, store and analyse administrative data from the key sectors at the district level.  The data would be used for decision-making including resource allocation at the community level. To date an automated database had been established in the pilot districts and hands-on training to impart computer application skills to staff of the key sectors had been accomplished.
